In a phenomenon of its kind, tens of families from Cairo and other Egyptian governorates gathered in front of the Press Syndicate on Thursday to protest against the suppressive practices and bad treatment of police against their family members.

Press Syndicate Liberties Committee Head Mohamed Abdul-Quddus affirmed to Ikhwanweb that the gathering of the families was completely spontaneous and not prompted by any political party. Abdul-Quddus added that families’ lawyers had accompanied them in the protest to affirm their legal right to protest against the suppressive practices of police against them while carrying out services in the police stations or being legally interrogated during detainment.

Commenting on the incident, MB leader Esam El-Erian told Ikhwanweb that it is a good start and that the rage that has become widespread in Egypt must be recognized by the government as every sector of the society has become well aware of its rights and is demanding them. El-Erian pointed out though that no deep-rooted change in the society will take place until all the civil, national, and political forces of Egypt unite.

It is worth mentioning that Egyptian and international human rights organizations had slammed the Egyptian government for its bad human rights record and the deterioration of the human situation of citizens at the hands of the Egyptian security authorities.
