Appeal in Ruling Against Tamer Mabrouk’s in Front of Court Tomorrow
Al-Zohor misdemeanors court holds tomorrow an appeal session on a verdict against blogger Tamer Mabrouk, author of the blog al-Hakikiah al-Masriyah “http:Elhakika.blogspot.com”.
Tamer was fined with LE25000 fine and LE 40000 as a civil compensation after a libel case was filed by Trust Chemicals company in June 2008.
Trust Chemicals had filed a law suite against Mabrouk, accusing him of libel and defamation for writing about the company”s disposing its chemical wastes into al-Manzalah lake, which is believed to have hazardous effects on the health of the citizens and fisheries. Mabrouk also wrote about the harsh work conditions that workers of the company suffer. He also covered the workers” sit-in demanding the company to stop arbitrary dismissals and allow them get copies of their work contracts with the company.
