Bahar strongly condemns the death of detainee under torture in Abbas’s jails

Acting Palestinian legislative council speaker Dr. Ahmed Bahar has strongly denounced the death of Haithem Amr, 28, under torture in Al-Khalil jail run by security forces loyal to former PA chief Mahmoud Abbas.

He said that torturing detainees to death is a “horrible” violation of human rights and a continuation of the assassinations of resistance fighters in the West Bank.

In a press release on Monday, Bahar said that all Palestinian factions and human rights groups should urgently intervene to end the policy of political detention and torture exercised in Abbas”s jails.

Ra”fat Nassif, one of the Hamas leaders held in Israeli occupation authority jails, said in a statement on Monday that the murder of Amr under torture affirmed that Abbas and his Fatah faction were not interested in any national dialog or conciliation.

He said that there is no use of dialog with Fatah, which does not have an independent decision, and is supporting such crimes with its silence.

Hamas MP Dr. Mohammed Shihab said that the execution of Amr posed as a fresh proof of the Ramallah authority”s intent to liquidate resistance and to protect Israel”s security.

In a press release on Monday, the lawmaker said that the escalating violence on the part of those security forces was meant to foil all dialog efforts and to frustrate the Palestinian people”s aspirations.
