Dwaik: Imprisoning MPs unjustified

Dr. Aziz Dwaik, the speaker of the Palestinian legislative council, has described Israel”s detention of PLC members as unjustified and a blow to democracy.

He told the PIC in an exclusive interview on Monday that the conditions of MPs in Israeli occupation authority jails were very bad.

We did not expect that number of arrests but we realized that we were facing a farce played by evil people against the democratic process that brought us to the PLC,” he elaborated.

The speaker charged that influential world political powers were only paying lip service to democracy and they were interested in absenting the elected Hamas MPs from the political scene.

Palestinian prisoners in IOA jails are considering launching an initiative to bridge the gap and return national cohesion to the Palestinian arena, Dwaik revealed, adding that foreign intervention in the Palestinian arena was the main reason for the current rift.

He championed releasing all political detainees in Palestinian prisons, adding that he would exert all efforts possible to reconcile the Palestinian differences.
