Deafening silence towards crazy militants in Somalia

Deafening silence towards crazy militants in Somalia

For twenty years, a number of factions and tribes in Somalia have engaged in continuous fighting. Whenever a faction gets tired, another one emerges. Whenever a faction disintegrates, another one is formed. Whenever a tribe becomes moderate, another one becomes fanatical.

In a previous age, it was assumed by some wise men that establishing courts would reduce crimes, spread security and revive hope. At that time, Ethiopia rushed to invade Somalia with an army that was misled and hungry.  However, both the army and the people got hungrier and lost focus, forcing it to withdraw, retreat and escape.

At that point in time, intelligent and wise leaders seeking security and hope for their people and their country understood that by seizing the opportunity, taking the initiative and encouraging gently, progress gradually there would be hope for successful reform.

However, at the same time, there emerged Al-Qaeda and its leader, launching speeches of excommunication and accusations of betrayal and incitement and sedition, particularly focusing on people of belief, righteousness and reform.

During this time, jihad against the Mujahedeen was waged: an unintelligent, meaningless, absurd and destructive jihad. There also emerged the extreme Al-Shabaab Movement and other such evil groups.

What inspired me to write this article and give this appeal is the suspicious and strange silence adopted by scholars and preachers both in Somalia and in the Arab and Muslim world.

It can be ascertained that there are intentions to move and support East Turkistan Muslims who face oppression in China. Also welcomed are the efforts to form solidarity with our martyred sister Marwa El Sherbini, who was killed by a fanatic, envious and racist person in Germany.

However, why is there silence in denouncing this illogical and extreme killing and mutilating of bodies, which happens on a daily basis in Somalia? In addition to this is the accompanied destruction, displacement, intimidation and starvation of innocent and harmless citizens. Why do scholars, preachers and movements keep this painful silence?

Is it because they are impartial to the killings and fighting because the criminal killers are Muslims and allegedly religious people? Do they believe that these roots of sedition attribute themselves to jihad and to the Islamic movement? Maybe they believe that they are raising a slogan of “establishing the Islamic state,” while they are masters only in killing, suicide, ruin and destruction.

This said, I”d like to highlight two points:

–         First, I beseech those silent scholars, muftis, Islamic movements and top preachers to quickly show the true Islamic judgment of the ongoing fighting in Somalia.
–         Second, I break this silence and pronounce that those instigating the struggle in Somalia are ignorant criminals who shed the innocent blood of their brothers and their tribes and nothing in our religion will salvage them from this crime. Nothing in religion justifies the killing and violations of any people in a Muslim country.
