The Middle East Studies Program at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies and the United States Institute of Peace sponsored a presentation by Grand Mufti of Egypt Ali Gomaa titled “The Challenge of Moderation in Islam: Egypt’s Religious Institution Versus Extremism.” The talk focused on the problem of violent interpretations of Islam and what clerics like Gomaa are doing to combat them.
