Abdel Baqi denounces the government’s delay in the collection of taxes due on newspapers.

 Member of the Muslim Brotherhood Parliamentary bloc, Abdel Baqi Ismail submitted a request for information to the Minister of Finance regarding the unpaid and overdue taxes of press organizations.

 

 

The MP explained that the tax arrears of national press institutions has mounted to six billion, 188 Million Egyptian pounds and  12 billion, 535 million pounds overdue by  both public and private sector companies and public agencies.

 

The MP revealed the amount of tax arrears according to the statement made by the Head of the Tax Department, which reached 27 billion, 127 million pounds of them 10 billions, 32 million pounds cannot be collected due to bankruptcy or debtors leaving the country. In addition to this, there are 17 billions, 640 million pounds currently under collection negotiations.

 

Mr. Ismail claimed that these taxes are the rights of the nation and the people and should be collected since it was announced by the Tax Department. He stressed that the lack of payment is not to anybody’s benefit.

 

He concluded his questioning demanding those responsible for this delay be accountable.
