Tyranny, extremism, intolerance and violence must be stemmed and MB members released.

The Sawaseya Centre for human rights called for the immediate release of all detainees who were unjustly arrested, tried and sentenced by martial law. The centre condemns the illegal and harsh sentences to civilians claiming that they deserve to be tried with justice seeked through fair hearings in authorized civilian courts.

In its statement commemorating the 3rd anniversary of Eng. Khayrat el-Shater the Muslim Brotherhood deputy Chairman, and 17 of his colleagues' unjust detention, Sawaseya stressed that the centre believes in advocating respect for human rights and the rule of law, which will help ensure the dignity to which every individual is entitled. This will ultimately stem tyranny extremism intolerance and violence.

The centre has repeatedly called on the Egyptian government to stop trying civilians before military courts. The procedures of military trials violate the right to a fair and public hearing before a competent, independent and impartial tribunal established by law.

In military court trials, the right to appeal to a higher tribunal is limited to hearings before the Supreme Court for Military Appeals which is composed exclusively of military officers and which only examines the law, its interpretation and procedural issues, rather than the evidence itself or the factual basis of the charges.

"All of those who remain imprisoned as a result of this unfair trial and appeal process should be immediately retried by a civilian court that conforms to international fair trial standards or else released," the statement stressed.

After three years in detention, injustice prevails in Egypt with the continued arbitrary arrests, detentions, and confiscation of the personal belongings of innocent men. The regime continues to strip the will of the people, sentencing them to a life of negativity. However, the constitution stipulates that civil and political rights are a class of rights andfreedoms that protect individuals from unwarranted government action and ensures the civilians ability to participate in the civil and political life of the state without discrimination or repression.

The centre calls on all human rights organizations to unite in defending the innocently detained members of the Muslim Brotherhood who were sentenced in case no. 963 of year 2006.

"The continued detention of these men is unjust. They are a group of highly respected, honest, noble and  distinguished men who are without doubt an asset to all, and the regime's insistence on these detentions will reflect negatively Egypt's existence on an international level".
