The university administration accused them of insulting and defaming the University President, belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood group, and of forming the free student union.

The decision of the University President was issued after a conference organized by the university entitled (student parliament, without red lines) on Tuesday Feb, 27, to carry out student activities that include all students; the university invited the secretary general of the free student union and a number of Muslim Brotherhood students.

For his part, Amr Hamed, the secretary general of the Egyptian free student union, saw this decision as part of a battle against the student rights to practice university activities.

Hamed added that this escalation against the Muslim Brotherhood students in the Egyptian universities is similar to the ongoing crackdown carried out by the Egyptian regime against the Muslim Brotherhood group pass the proposed constitutional amendments that will cause more restrictions on freedoms.
