Egyptian Court Acquits 18 Sharqiya MB Leaders

Cairo Criminal Court acquitted last Sunday 18 Muslim Brotherhood members and leaders from Sharqiya; the MB members were detained in prisons of Wadi Al-Natrun and Burj Al-Arab according to arrest warrants the Interior Ministry issued more than 6 weeks ago.

The Egyptian court upheld the appeal lodged by the Muslim Brotherhood members and issued a ruling of immediately releasing them after 15 days unless Interior Ministry challenges the ruling or issues another arrest warrant; in case of challenging the court ruling, another appeal can be filed a month later .

The released MB members are :

First Wadi Al-Natrun detainees :

He was arrested three times before this, the latest of which was last June as he was jailed for two months pending trial and he was arrested in January 2005 for six months; also, he was jailed for three years on the court-martials against hundreds of MB members in 1995.

It’s worth mentioning that other appeals will be lodged for releasing other MB detainees on Tuesday and Wednesday before Cairo criminal court.

For his part, lawyer Mostafa Al Demeiri considered it a good step that confirms the fairness of the Egyptian judiciary.

Al Demeiri pointed out that problem lies in implementing the ruling by the Ministry of Interior which is used to issuing other arrest warrants against those released by court in a flagrant disrespect to judicial rulings, like the arrest warrant against eng. Khairat Al Shater and fellow detainees in addition to many other cases.
