Energy authority denies news reports about providing Gaza power plant with fuel

GAZA, — The Palestinian authority of energy and natural resources in the Gaza Strip on Thursday denied news reported saying that head of Ramallah government Salam Fayyad intervened to provide Gaza power plant with industrial diesel.

The energy authority revealed that the ministry of finance in Ramallah imposed taxes on the industrial diesel shipments funded in January by the European union amounted to more than 50 percent of the cost of diesel.

It explained that the Ramallah ministry of finance only paid 14.4 million shekels (about 3.5 million dollars) of the costs of diesel shipments for the month of January 2010 and not as it alleged that it paid 36 million shekels (about nine million dollars), adding that the difference in cost was taken as tax revenues.
