The Palestinian detainees in Ofer prison on Thursday started their protest steps and went on hunger strike, declaring that this step will be followed by other moves in all Israeli jails. Director of Ahrar center for prisoners’ studies Fouad Al-Khafsh said that a series of protest steps will be carried out by all Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails as a prelude to stronger moves if the Israeli prison administrations did not respond to their fair demands or stop violating their rights. Khafsh stressed that the prison administrations still ignore the prisoners’ demands and persist in imposing more restrictions on them, taking advantage of the situation outside the prisons especially the inter-Palestinian division and the weakened support for their issue. He noted that the prisoners’ demands are fair and legitimate guaranteed by international law especially the Geneva convention. The director of Ahrar center underlined that these demands are represented particularly in ending the solitary confinement of some prisoners, facilitating family visits, stopping harassment of prisoners and their families during visits, lifting the ban imposed on watching some satellite channels, improving the meals served, giving access to educational attainment, providing special medical attention especially to patients. |
