NAZARETH, -- Israel warned officials of the Palestinian Authority (PA) in Ramallah of the repercussions of any intention to establish a Palestinian state without previous coordination with it.

This warning was made by Tzachi Hanegbi, the head of the foreign affairs and war committee at the Knesset, in response to Salam Fayyad’s remarks about his intention to announce an independent Palestinian state by 2011.

Hanegbi claimed that this declaration could be a right step if it only was made in coordination with Israel.

In another context, the Hamas change and reform parliamentary bloc, stated Saturday that Fayyad’s declared support for the Judaism of Israel is indulgence in his loyalty to the Israeli occupation and a dangerous national decline.

In a press release, the bloc said that such remarks would pave the way for the occupation to uproot the Palestinians living on their land occupied in 1948, stressing that Fayyad only represents himself.

It added that when Fayyad called for finding a compromise solution with regard to occupied Jerusalem, he gave Israel a green light to seize and annex any parts of the holy city it likes, which may include the Aqsa Mosque and the Old City.

The bloc noted that Fayyad was imposed by the Israeli occupation and the American administration which made their financial support for the PA conditional on the appointment of Fayyad as the premier of the Palestinian government in Ramallah, so he never misses an opportunity to please his masters.

For his part, Dr. Salah Al-Bardawil, the spokesman for the Hamas parliamentary bloc, strongly denounced Fayyad’s remarks and accused him of being involved in a conspiracy against the Palestinian people and their holy sites.

In a press statement to the Palestinian information center (PIC) on Saturday, Dr. Bardawil said that Fayyad’s remarks came after his participation in Israel’s Herzliya security conference, which suggests that he is involved in very serious schemes against the Palestinian people.

He added that such remarks reflected how much the option of negotiation adopted by the PA and Fatah faction is frail.

Fayyad declared in an interview with Haaretz newspaper his readiness to waive the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes, saying that the project of his state is based on providing infrastructure that could accommodate the refugees within a Palestinian state established on a part of the 1967 occupied lands.

These remarks raised the ire of Palestinian refugees in West Bank camps, who accused Fayyad of collaboration with the Israeli occupation against their national right.

Mustafa Musa, a Palestinian refugee in Balata camp, deplored Fayyad’s remarks, saying that Fayyad appropriated the government after it was not approved by the Palestinian legislative council (PLC) and he only represents himself.

Another refugee from Tulkarem camp called Mohamed Hussein said that that Fayyad’s remarks are illegal because they violate the international law that guarantees the human being’s right to return to his native homeland.

“I am a refugee, who only accept to return to the city of Yaffa from which I was expelled in 1948 and refuse to stay in the camp or to receive compensation,” Hussein added.
