Ahrar center for prisoners’ studies said on Tuesday that the Israeli prisons authority (IPA) started to follow a new repressive policy represented in imposing enormous fines on Palestinian prisoners.

Director of the center Fouad Al-Khafsh stated that 14 prisoners were fined a total of $16,000 during April by the Israeli military court of Ofer prison.

Khafsh affirmed that imposing such heavy and cumbersome fines on prisoners constitutes a huge burden on their families.

He added that if the prisoner or his family was not able to pay the fine, his imprisonment term will be extended several months.

Meanwhile, prisoners in Hawara jail said in a message published on Tuesday that the prison administration was banning entry of new clothes to them.

They added that only a paramedic sees them and if they complain of anything they are only given the usual Akamol tablets, adding that meals served to them were not enough and they were always hungry and thirsty.

The prisoners asked the Red Cross to visit them and get acquainted with the serious conditions in jail as a result of the administration's repressive practices.
