The medical committee formed by the Justice Ministry to examine Dr. Ayman Nour, Al-Ghad party leader, declared that his health is good and there is no need to release him for health reasons although he suffers from diabetes and heart problems.

Dr. Kamal Al Saadani, a member in the committee, said that Nour was medically checked at Cairo University hospitals; the checks proved that he is doing well and he is taking his meals and medication regularly, denying reports that any political pressures were exercised on the committee to refuse to recommend the release of Al-Ghad party leader due to health reasons.

Gamila Ismail, a previous TV presenter and wife of Dr. Ayman Nour, told Ikhwanweb that she was stunned by the committee’s decision which she considered as politically motivated.

Ayman Nour is still suffering from heart problems and has developed knee problems which require an urgent surgery in addition to a bleeding in the retina .

Nour is serving a five year prison sentence on charges of forging the papers of establishing Al-Ghad party. He had a cardiac catheterization procedure in a Cairo hospital on Dec. 18, 2006.

23 Egyptian human rights organizations warned last month of the deteriorating health of Al-Ghad party leader after having this cardiac catheterization procedure, calling on president Mubarak to release him.

European Parliament (EP) Vice-President, Edward MacMillan Scott, who was prevented by the Egyptian authorities early February from visiting Ayman Nour at Torah prison demanded releasing him and he urged The European Union to adopt a strong attitude towards the Egyptian regime.
