Mubarak fails to follow through with Shura election promises
Observers recognized that rigging and harassments were widely held throughout Egypt’s constituencies demonstrating violations to both the constitution and human rights
Reports were filed by opposition candidates mainly from the Muslim Brotherhood complaining of abuses and irregularities that marred the elections but to no avail
Widespread rigging was evident and the NDP supporters in the constituency of Daqahliya, Kafr el Sheik, Mansoura and Giza arrogantly threatened any voters banning them from entering the polling station or submitting their votes
Moreover members from the Electoral Commission denied there were any problems with the electoral procedures despite thugs employed by the ruling NDP, security forces and police banning people from participating
The Beheira constituency was turned into military barracks and baton and club wielding security forces and thugs thwarted efforts by voters to reach the ballot boxes. One supporter was shot in the leg by a police officer and has had to undergo an emergency surgery
Members from the Supreme Commission for elections were notably absent despite promises by numerous officials that they would closely monitor and supervise the elections
The MB candidates have called for the return of judicial supervision during elections deeming it necessary if the elections were to be free, fair, and transparent as alleged since the appointed committee failed to follow through with its responsibilities in ensuring the transparency of elections
It called for holding all those responsible accountable for ignoring complaints filed by opposition and their prosecution in court
