Cairo Criminal Court delayed, on Tuesday afternoon, hearing the appeal against the Egyptian Attorney General’s decision of freezing the assets of 29 Muslim Brotherhood leaders topped Eng. Khairat Al Shater, to Feb., 24, 2007, while their assets remain frozen.

The defense panel described the ruling of the court, headed by counselor Adel Abdul Salam Gomaah, as oppressive and will lead to more collapse in the Egyptian economy and will also send a bad message to Arab and foreign investors .

Asked about his comment on the ruling, Eng. Khairat Al Shater said he was surprised with it, and he expected that the decision of the attorney general will be rescinded because it has a bad effect on the Egyptian economy, pointing out it is actually politically motivated; he attributed this to the rising popularity of the Muslim Brotherhood movement in the Egyptian public opinion and its overwhelming wins in the last People’s Assembly elections in addition to attempting to prevent the movement from running for the coming Shura Council elections .

Al Shater denied the accusations against him and other co-defendants that they carry out a money laundry, confirming that it is a false and groundless accusation; he added that it is strange that the regime linked those whose assets were frozen with Youssef Nada whose residence Switzerland has been frozen since 9/11 events.

Abdul Monem Abdul Maqsoud, the MB lawyer, said that : the ruling is very strange and it wasn’t expected to be issued this way; this is actually a death blow to the frozen money and investments .
