Confrontations in Silwan, IOF serves tens of demolition notices in WB

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, — Israeli policemen and border guards fired rubber bullets and teargas canisters at hundreds of Palestinian demonstrators in Silwan suburb in occupied Jerusalem on Tuesday night.

Eyewitnesses said that the Palestinian citizens were protesting the continued confiscation of their land and demolition of tens of houses after the Israeli-controlled municipality of occupied Jerusalem approved the establishment of King Solomon’s Garden in the suburb.

They noted that five citizens were injured in the confrontation while at least one was taken by the police.

The Israeli police also rounded up 25 Palestinian workers from the West Bank on Tuesday evening after the driver of their bus fled when his vehicle turned turtle and caught fire at the western entrance of Baka Al-Gharbia village in 1948 occupied Palestine.

The police statement said that a truck was chased in the area after it refused to stop for inspection but it turned over near Baka and all workers on board were taken for questioning.

In Al-Khalil, the Israeli occupation forces served demolition notices to tens of house owners in Edhna village, west of the district, local sources said.

Locals said that the citizens would file lawsuits against the demolition orders, at the usual pretext of lack of permit, describing the step as “oppressive and criminal”.
