MBs petition 7 demands for reform collects 300,000 signatures in 23 days

The number of signatures collected by the Muslim Brotherhood’s online campaign “Seven demands for reform” launched by Chairman Dr. Mohamed Badie and adopted by Egypt’s Opposition political powers has reached nearly 300, 000 signatures through the group’s tawkatonline in 23 days.

“Such demands are jointly adopted by Egypt ‘s Opposition political powers to attain the desired political reform, Badie said, adding “there is national consensus among the Egyptians on these demands, making it a necessary prelude to reform and change. Egyptians must seriously and enthusiastically take part in this petition to put an end to the rampant corruption by the government, to prevent fraud, to end torture and to maintain the dignity of the Egyptians at home and abroad by lifting the state of emergency”.

The Chairman urged that all Muslim Brotherhood members both in Egypt and abroad must motivate Egyptian Muslim and Christian Sects to positively interact in the campaign to create a unified popular opinion demanding political reform and change.

The MB’s campaign has so far received worldwide attention in the world’s newspapers for the significant interaction by the Egyptians. The seven points included in the charter backed by the Brotherhood demand the following:

1. Ending the state of emergency
2. The empowerment of the Egyptian judiciary to supervise the full electoral process. 
3. Monitoring of the elections by local and international civil society organizations.
4. Providing equal opportunities in the media for all candidates, especially in the presidential election.
5. Enabling Egyptians abroad to exercise their right to vote in embassies and consulates in Egypt .
6. Ensuring the right to stand in presidential elections without arbitrary restrictions in line with Egypt ‘s obligations under the International Convention for Civil and Political Rights, and limiting the right to run for the presidency to two terms.
7. Elections by individual identification social numbers.

 In order to attain the listed procedures and safeguards amendments to articles 76, 77 and 88 of the Constitution must take place as soon as possible
