Jordan's Muslim Brotherhood offshoot the Islamic Action Front announced that it would boycott the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled to take place November

The decision came after a unanimous vote within the groups Shura council to boycott with a majority of 43 out of the 51 votes

The IAF has participated in four consecutive parliamentary elections since the Party's revival in 1989 however it boycotted the 1997 elections objecting to the government's refusal to change the controversial one-person one-vote electoral system

Although some members hoped to participate in the elections in an effort to continue dialogue with the government the majority's vote ruled the day
