MB offshoot in Syria chooses new Secretary General
 
The Muslim Brotherhood’s offshoot Shura council in Syria elected a new Secretary General for the group after 72 year old Ali Bayanouni submitted his resignation after serving three term mandate the elections which were held in Istanbul where members met to choose the leaders.
 
The Shura Council elected 66 year old Mohamed Riad Shaqfa (Abu Hazem)  with a two third majority and Sheik Hatem Al Tabsha as the council’s chairman. Shaqfa is a civil engineer and is a prominent figure in the group. He graduated from the Damascus University in 1968, Shaqfa survived an assassination attempt in Baghdad in 2003 after the fall of the Iraqi regime his car was riddled with bullets, but survived.
