Ibrahim Monir:MB Seeks Civil, not Religious, Party

A member of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Executive Bureau says they seek a civil  party in accordance with the second article of the Egyptian Constitution.

Mr. Ibrahim Monir, an Executive Bureau member of the Muslim Brotherhood’s International Organization, said that the group in Egypt seeks to establish a civil party based on the second article of the Egyptian constitution stipulating that the Islamic Sharia is the main source of legislation
 .
Monir said, in an interview in Al-Jazeera Satellite TV Channel, that the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt seeks to establish a civil party and that it has repeatedly declared that it reject a religious party and a religious country according to the Western concept: that they clergy rule the state. He asserted that the Muslim Brotherhood is backing a civil state that respects the principle of citizenship, rights of minorities and a peaceful transfer of power .

The MB leader pointed out that the Egyptian regime’s rejection to the Muslim Brotherhood and spreading fear from the Islamic movement is out of a dictatorial inclination from a regime that seeks an authoritarian control over the Egyptian people through removing any real opposition .

Monir confirmed that the Muslim Brotherhood has never formed any military organization and that it has repeatedly declared its renunciation to violence.

It is worth mentioning that the Muslim Brotherhood has never committed any act of violence despite the continuous crackdowns that included many MB leaders.

“President Mubarak’s statement, including his concerns that investments may leave the country in case the MB assumed power, is groundless” said Monir, pointing out that investments leave the country out of the corruption permeating in all Egyptian state-run institutions in addition to the security crackdowns and shutting down companies, the latest of which was arresting many Muslim Brotherhood businessmen and shutting down their companies.

Ibrahim Monir confirmed that the Muslim Brotherhood is a part of the Egyptian fabric and it enjoys a huge popular legitimacy; this has been proved true on the ground after 88 MB candidates won seats in the last legislative elections despite the scandalous security violations which have been exposed by the media.
