Thirty five members, mainly students, of the Muslim brotherhood offshoot in Jordan were released by police after being detained following their call to boycott next month's parliamentary elections.

The arrests come at the start of the election campaign for Jordan's 120-seat legislature, which is expected to be dominated by pro-government candidates.

The Brotherhood has asserted that it will steer clear from the polls scheduled November 9th in protest to a new law believed to thwart its influence in favor of pro-government politicians.

Darweesh Abu Sukar, the IAF leader, confirmed that the men arrested were not involved in any activity affiliated to the boycott
