Egypt’s students rise in protest to continued intervention in student body elections

Ain-Shams and Assuit Universities witnessed demonstrations organized by students affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood opposition movement against the continued intervention by security forces and the university guard in the student union elections.

The students were initially banned from taking to the streets as police cordoned the campus but were forced to allow the students to continue their protest on the pavement outside the university grounds.

Assiut University students also demonstrated against the university administration’s decision to deny them residence in the university’s dormitory.

Protests also took place where students at a number of technical institutes throughout the country were denied admission to state universities except on an audit basis.
