3 Sharqiya MBs Released, Gov’t Refueses to Release 16 Others

Fakous Appeals Court released on Thursday three Muslim Brotherhood leaders from Sharqiya after the security forces arrested them on Jan. 2, 2007 and the prosecution ordered jailing them for 15 days.
 
The three released detainees are, Abdullah Al Zhwi (administrative and financial manager in the youth and sports administration), Dr. Mohamed Lotfi (pharmacist), and Gamal Salem (Secondary school teacher


In another development, Zagazig and Menia El Kameh Courts of Appeals ordered on Monday the release of 16 Muslim Brotherhood leaders from Sharqiya, including Dr. Mohamed Abdul Ghani (MB political committee member), however, government declined to follow court order and none of the detainees have been released. 


The same situation happened with Dr. Amir Bassam, a Muslim Brotherhood leader, whom the court acquitted and issued a ruling to release him last Tuesday, but he is still being held along with 15 MB members in Sharqiya state security headquarters.
 
It’s worth mentioning that the security forces arrested in the past days a more thab 200 members of Muslim Brotherhood including Mr. Mohamed Khayrat Al Shater, Second Deputy chairman, whose medical condition is unstable. The cycles of crackdowns against members of the group began after Al-Azhar students’ theatrical sketsh which the media exploited to defame the Muslim Brotherhood and distort its image claiming that it is forming a military wing.


Court Releases Dakahlia’s MB Detainess
 
Mansoura Court of Appeals canceled the decision of jailing three Muslim Brotherhood leaders in Dakahlia (Mohamed Abdul Rahman, Hamed Mansour and Mohamed Zakariya), who were detained on Tuesday Jan. 2, 2007, on charge of publishing and distributing statements criticizing the Egyptian regime. According to a new law; State security prosecution has the right to challeng the court rulings within two days.


For his part, Ahmed Yunus, the detainees’ lawyer, in a statement to Ikhwanweb praised the court ruling saying which did not find any real charges against the detainees to justify their arrest.
