“Defend Egypt’s Students” campaign, run by the Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression, observed the number of violations suffered by students in Ain Shams University; 13 students from the Faculty of Commerce are being prevented from entering up to five exams and also face dismissal for three weeks. Furthermore, seven students from the Faculty of Medicine are being investigated and four students at the office of the head of University Guards were attacked and detained for four hours.

Another student was detained at the office of the head of University Guards and was beaten up and kicked by security guards, one of whom, Mohamed Abdel Wahab, burnt the student’s hands with cigarettes and tried to strangle him to death. According to the campaign, the student was taken to hospital and submitted a complaint to the attorney general.

A number of members of the university’s student union submitted complaints against two students from the Faculty of Law, alleging assault. The two students were transferred to the prosecution for investigation. Another two students were also detained at the office of the head of University Guards for two hours. According to a study by the campaign, Ain Shams University is considered the worst in terms of its dealings with students since the beginning of the educational year until the end of October.
