An official from the military has denied there is any affiliation between SCAF and the coalition “Egypt Above All”, which has called for Field Marshall Hussein Tantawi to run as President in the upcoming elections.

The official confirmed that SCAF is committed to former vows to oversee  the parliamentary and presidential elections with integrity in order to hand over power to a civilian elected authority. He stated: “We have nothing to do with the new group which launched a campaign that calls upon Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi to run for president. We are currently in a transitional phase and are not a substitute for legitimate power but are here to ensure the safe handing over of power to a civilian elected authority following the parliamentary, shura and presidential elections”.
