Dr. Mohamed Morsi, Chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), received on Sunday S. M. Krishna, India’s External Affairs Minister, and R. Swaminathan, India’s Ambassador in Cairo, together with their accompanying delegation, at the FJP’s headquarters in Cairo.

Dr. Morsi welcomed the Indian External Affairs Minister and his accompanying delegation, stressing the depth of relations between Egypt and India, hoping their cordial meetings would contribute in bolstering the bonds of cooperation between Egypt and India in all fields.

Dr. Morsi pointed out that FJP seeks, in cooperation with all political parties and stakeholders, to re-build the institutions of the modern constitutional state, to achieve the hopes and aspirations of the Egyptian society. He said that post-revolution Egypt faces significant political, economic and social challenges.

Dr. Morsi called on the Indian Foreign Minister to urge his country to support the process of democratic transformation in Egypt at the political and economic levels through the promotion of Indian investment in Egypt, and the transfer of the Indian experience to the Egyptian market, especially in the areas of electronics and education.

At the international level, Dr. Morsi urged the Indian Foreign Minister to play an active role in stopping Syrian regime violations against its own people, and to call upon Assad to heed the demands of the Syrian people and step down.

For his part, S. M. Krishna congratulated the FJP on the marvelous results the party achieved in Egyptian elections of both Houses of Parliament, pointing to the need to push forward the relations between Egypt and India towards greater cooperation and integration, especially after the January 25 revolution.

Krishna asserted his government's support for the democratic transformation process in Egypt on the political and economic levels, in pursuit of fruitful relations with common visions and ambitious goals.

Krishna pointed out that India is willing to share experiences with Egyptians in several areas of economy and technology, which can contribute to promoting investments in Egypt.
