Ashri: Freedom and Justice Party to Appeal SCAF’s Disbanding of Parliament

Mukhtar Ashri, Chairman of the Legal Committee of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), affirmed that his party is considering legal ways to deal with the ruling by the Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC) and statements made recently by its president on the unconstitutionality of some articles of the law of parliamentary elections. The FJP, Ashri adds, may submit an interpretation, clarification or reconsideration request or, alternatively, it may submit an interpretation to be presented to the State Council.

In a statement to Ikhwanweb, Ashri pointed out that an appeal is under consideration, against the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF)’s implementation of the SCC’s verdict, asserting that a decision in this regard will be issued after consideration and consultations are completed, in the coming days.

Ashri further stressed that the FJP seeks to uphold the rule of law without circumventing the will of the people or permitting encroachment by any of the three branches (executive, judicial and parliamentary) on the other.

Recently, SCAF prevented lawmakers from entering the Egyptian parliament building, after an SCC decision reported by the media in Egypt to mean ‘the dissolution of parliament’.
