In a statement to Ikhwanweb, Mukhtar Ashri, Chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP)’s Legal Committee, denied there were discussions about the possibility of holding internal elections at the FJP headquarters in the next few days.
"If an FJP general conference convenes, it will be for electing a new Chairman. Obviously, the party chief post is vacant. Elections must be held to select the new leader. But that has not been determined yet.
"The party uses internal elections as a truly democratic tool to find suitable talents, based on criteria set by the FJP’s General Assembly."
Dr. Mohamed Morsi, former FJP chairman, resigned after he was elected President of Egypt.
