Abdel-Azim Sharqawi, member of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Guidance Bureau, who resides in Beni Suef province (south of Cairo) where two Coptic Christian boys are reported to have urinated on pages they tore up from a copy of Muslims’ holiest book, the Quran, affirmed that the Brotherhood has contained the situation that escalated after reports alleged the boys desecrated the holy book.

In a statement to Ikhwanweb, Sharqawi added: "We are sure those children do not realize the seriousness of what they have done and the situation they have caused. No-one is behind their clearly unacceptable act. Thus, the incident is resolved peacefully", and further continued, "We must keep in mind that these are children".
