The Egyptian security forces on November 7,2006, detained two candidates of the Trade Union elections while they were in front of the Ministry of Manpowe. The two were taken to an undisclosed location

One of the two detainees,  Yasser Abu Taleb, is the MB candidate for Al Maasara Company for Engineering Industries, and the other is Tarek Sayed, who is the candidate for  Factory 99 for Military Production.

They both were earlier last month excluded from the election lists by the government due to their sweeping popularity, therefore, they filed lawsuits and won a court ruling reinstating them back to the election lists. However, the court ruling didn’t protect them from being detained by the security forces.

It is noted that Yasser Abu Taleb, a board member in Factory 99 for Military Production, was suddenly transferred to Factory 27 for Military Production at a time when the candidates were submitting their applications

In an exclusive statement to Ikhwanweb, MB Member of Parliament and coordinator of the MB worker election Saber Abul Fotouh said that the Egyptian government uses detentions against opposition and disregards judicial rulings and law. Fotouh added that the government abides by the law only if it serves its own interests.
