In an exclusive statement to Ikhwanweb, MP and general coordinator for Muslim Brotherhood in the Labor Unions election, Mr. Saber Abul Fotouh, said that the group was hoping to be able to have at least 1400 running for the upcoming labor unions elections, out of 2000 candidates initially applied, but the government excluded all of them.

Abul Fotouh criticized the government’s behavior and vowed the Muslim Brotherhood will support the opposition candidates during the elections.

He lamented that the MB hoped for a fair and free elections but the government wanted otherwise.  He added the Muslim Brotherhood, in coordination with opposition, will seek to form an alternative "free union" in case if the ruling party takes control of the labor unions, a tradition recognized by most many countries.

He assured that preparations for the "free union" are underway, and that an alliance was formed in Alexandria which embraces all political forces including parties of Tajammu, Wafd, Ahrar, Kifaya and Labor, as well as NGOs including human rights organizations.
