An Egyptian military court Tuesday sentenced five Muslim Brotherhood leaders to one year rigorous imprisonment, in the first court-martial of the group's leaders since the coup executed by the generals against the elected President Mohamed Morsi on July 3, 2013.

Brotherhood leaders sentenced Tuesday at the Military Supreme Court in Qena (Upper Egypt) were: Adel Mostafa Qatamish, former deputy governor of northern Sinai (north-east of Egypt); Ali Ezzedin Thabit, member of the Muslim Brotherhood's Shura Council (the group's highest advisory authority); Khaled Hamza, lead consultant of the Brotherhood's official news website in English "Ikhwanweb"; Zain El-Abidine Mahmoud, a teacher in Arish – North Sinai Governorate; Tariq Ismail Ahmed, mechanical engineer in Arish.

Legal sources told Ikhwanweb that the defense will appeal the verdict.
