Syria Muslim Brotherhood: Any Alliance Must Target Assad Repressive Regime

Omar Abdul-Aziz Meshwah, head of the Media and Information Office of the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria and the group’s spokesman, said: "The group refuses any international coalition that seeks to intervene in Syria under the pretext of the fight against the so-called "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" organization (ISIS)… Part of the battle with that organization is ideological, done through dialogue rather than weapons".

Meshwah added: "The Muslim Brotherhood in Syria will not support such a coalition, and will not be a tool in its hand. We hope that any such coalition targets Assad’s murderous regime first. If we see it target the Assad regime, we will re-evaluate our position on this prospective coalition.

"For three years, the West ignored horrid acts of terror perpetrated daily by Assad forces, Hezbollah militias and Iranian mercenaries in Syria. It never took any serious determined action to stop these inhuman terrors. The West’s sudden interest and announcement of an international coalition to eliminate ISIS, away from tyrannical Assad and allies, is evidence of Western hypocrisy that will not serve or benefit the Syrian pro-democracy Revolution in any way whatsoever.

"We will not support any international coalition that seeks to intervene in Syria unless it targets the Assad regime at the same time. Our main battle is with Assad. We will not aim our weapons at any other targets. His presence means the continuation of terror acts in all shapes and forms."

On dealing with ISIS, Meshwah said: "A large part of the battle with ISIS is ideological. It needs focus on serious re-correction of their popular base’s beliefs, through dialogue and ideological guidance and advice.

"We will respond to any attack from ISIS, and will not stand idle if provoked. However, we will not start a fight with ISIS so long as it is fighting Assad. If its guns are aimed at us, we will face up to it and respond to their transgression. We will defend the Syrian pro-democracy Revolution and its goals."
