Freedom and Justice Party Condemns Storming University Campuses by Coup Militia

Freedom and Justice Party condemned the storming of several universities campuses on Sunday by military and coupe police militia, and their repressive practices which angered thousands of students igniting nationwide protests for the second day. Coup’s Central Security Forces (CSF) aided by private security contractor Falcon hired by the government, imposed heavy-handed practices which were widely rejected by students and staff, such as: keeping students standing in long lines for hours outside university premises while security personnel searched and screened them, attacking and arresting students, blocking lecture halls, evacuating buildings, and interfering with the educational process as a whole.

FJP denounced such repressive measures aiming at militarization of the universities, and cracking down on students’ activism on campuses. The party also denounced sweeping arrest campaigns among students at the beginning of the new academic year, which resulted into the arrest of more than 64 students, including three were kidnapped to undisclosed locations.

The party stands in full solidarity with Egypt’s students, and their legitimate demands to immediately release their colleagues from jails, and reject police state oppressive measures and restrictions on their rights to free speech in opposing the coup government policies, which will only increase the students’ resolve and determination to achieve their demands.
