Amr Darrag: Egypt Change Only from Within

Dr. Amr Darrag, leading member of both the Freedom and Justice Party and the Anti-Coup Pro-Legitimacy National Alliance and Minister of International Cooperation in President Mohamed Morsi’s government, said: "We do not want to see our country dragged into the tragic situation that has befallen some other countries… Revolutionary men and women of Egypt have proved that peace is their chosen path to freedom and to making their voice heard around the world.

At a news conference to discuss the human rights situation in Egypt, in Geneva, Dr. Darrag further said: "The biggest proof that this revolutionary movement is troubling the military-appointed ruling regime is the absurd actions taken by the coup against peaceful protesters in the Egyptian street.

"We firmly believe that change in Egypt will come about from within our homeland, not from the outside. We will certainly not seek to change any situation in Egypt from abroad."

In conclusion, Dr. Darrag said: "More than 32 million Egyptians came out of their homes to take part in the first post-revolution (2011) parliamentary elections, and more than 25 million Egyptians turned out and cast ballots in the (2012) presidential election. All these had their will trampled in Egypt, which was once a beacon of enlightenment, progress and prosperity, and has now become a land overflowing with the blood of its own youth".
