Appeal Court Orders Retrial for Muslim Brotherhood Chairman in Rabaa Operations Room Case
The Court of Cassation ruled Thursday to cancel the life imprisonment and death sentences against Muslim Brotherhood Chairman Mohamed Badie and other leaders in the so-called Rabaa operations room case. It promptly ordered a retrial.
Earlier, the Legal Defense Committee representing Muslim Brotherhood leader Badie and 37 others appealed the sentences issued against them by the Criminal Court (sentences ranged from the death penalty to life imprisonment).
On April 11, 2015, Cairo Criminal Court presided over by Judge Nagui Shehata, issued sentences and decisions to execute 14 leaders convicted in the case, including Mohamed Badie, the Muslim Brotherhood’s Chairman.
