Freedom and Justice Party Suez Secretary Arrested, Forcibly Disappeared

The Association of Suez Detainees Families (ASDF) holds the criminal military coup authorities fully responsible for the safety of Ahmed Mahmoud, Secretary of the Freedom and Justice Party in Suez and member of the party’s Supreme Committee, who was kidnapped Saturday morning by coup security forces which also subjected him to enforced disappearance..

Mahmoud’s family said his life is at risk, as he suffers from an advanced and dangerous stage of cirrhosis of the kidney, in addition to chronic problems in the spine and neck. The family has not received any information about Mahmoud’s fate or whereabouts, and fears coup authorities would hold him in a remote location, where he would be tortured and treated with typical inhuman brutality.

ASDF said abduction and enforced disappearance (like in the case of Ahmed Mahmoud) are crimes repeatedly committed by coup authorities against hundreds of people (young and old) of this country.

"Forced disappearance is certainly a crime against humanity with no statute of limitations. The perpetrators of this crime will be punished sooner rather than later."

Ahmed Mahmoud is a very popular person in Suez. His political opponents as well as his supporters vouch for his good morals and strict respect in dealing with everyone. They point that he was a good companion in the January 25 (2011) Revolution, and that he has a talent for statesmanship that helps him establish good relations with all parties, reconcile their differences and effect revolutionary unity.
