Egyptian Coordinating Committee of Rights and Freedom (ECRF) strongly condemns the extrajudicial killing of the young Egyptian Ahmed Galal Ismail, 32, by security forces who arrested him from his home at dawn Wednesday, January 20, 2016 and subjected him to enforced disappearance since then, and until Sunday (January 31) when his family heard his body was found in the city's morgue, with a bullet in the head.

Having followed up the case and seen the documented forced disappearance, ECRF holds the security forces and the Interior Ministry responsible for the killing of Ismail, a direct deliberate killing that must be urgently investigated and those responsible held accountable and brought to trial.

It is most absurd that this extremely unrestrained and callous shedding of innocent Egyptians' blood is allowed to continue.

Whatever the crime of an individual, a citizen has the right to a fair trial according to the law and the constitution.

Assassinations and extrajudicial killings by the regime's security agencies are a measure of the absence of the rule of law.

Sadly, in less than 7 days, four other Egyptians were killed in cold blood in exactly the same way: Gaber Mohamed Hassib and Sayed Mohamed Hassib (brothers), of Beni Suef Province – killed in the Sixth of October City; Mohamed Ali Hamdan, from the village of Bani Suleiman in Beni Suef Province – shot dead after severe torture at the hands of National Security forces in the province, two weeks after he was arrested; and Mohamed Abdel-Aziz – killed by security forces in the village of Kerdasa on January 25, 2016.

This is in addition to 143 people, cases documented by ECRF in 2015 where security forces murdered detainees with live ammunition, throwing some from windows of high buildings or killing them in dubious explosions. Evidently, this has become a systematic method used deliberately by security apparatuses in Egypt to dispose of regime opponents. No-one should keep quiet or show tolerance to such criminal practices. They should be investigated, and perpetrators fairly and promptly punished.
