Russian Ambassador to Jordan Alexander Calogen posted Jordanian MB Chairman Salem el Flahat dismissing as groundless reports that Russia has placed the Jordanian MB on its terrorist list. He added that the Jordanian MB is a legitimate group as it is recognized by the Kingdom and has deputies in the Jordanian Parliament, besides its vast relations at the local and global level, dismissing any attempts on the part of Russia to place the Jordanian MB on the terrorism list now or in the future. However, the Russian Ambassador dropped a bombshell when said it is the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt that was placed on the Russian list of terrorist groups, but he declined to state any reasons which prompted Russia to take such a step. For his part, Chairman el Flahat replied by thanking the Russian ambassador for his country’s favorable position toward the  Jordanian MB, but he also called Russia to reconsider its position toward the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. Flahat defended the Egyptian MB by saying that it is a popular movement and has 88 deputies in the Egyptian Parliament besides its omnipresence in syndicates, trade unions and other civil society entities. ” It adopts peaceful means of reform and change, besides it draws a demarcation line between terrorism and legitimate resistacne “, he said.

Egypt : Habib Calls On Russia To Reconsider Its Position

In reply to the step taken by the Russian government placing the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood on the terrorist list, MB First Deputy Chairman Dr. Mohamed Habib expressed the group’s surprise and  disbelief over this, saying that Russia’s accusations to the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood of terrorism and violence is seen as incitement against the group as well as meddling with the Egyptian domestic affairs. In an exclusive statement to Ikhwanweb, Dr. Habib said that the Muslim Brotherhood is the biggest political entity in Egypt with omnipresence on the Egyptian political arena and massive public support, citing the win of 88 of the group’s members in the recent parliament election in spite of vote rigging and other irregularities monitored by the media. “ We have often declared that we shun terrorism and violence, and adopt peaceful means of reform and abide by law and constitution in our political action, without any quarter proving evidence of  violence or terrorism on our part”, Dr. Habib said. He called on the Russian government to reconsider its position toward Ikhwan in Egypt, saying that the Egyptian authorities position toward Ikhwan does not justify banning the group from exercising its political rights. It is noted that the Muslim Brotherhood has always called on the Egyptian government to change its skeptical vision toward the group, seeing that this vision has no ground to stand on, nor does the regime have specific legal reasons to outlaw it.
