A tragic disaster took place on Monday August 21, 2006 when two trains collided near Galioubia Governorate, north of Egypt, claiming  the lives of about 80 persons in addition to the injury of 165 others. In an exclusive statement to Ikhwanweb,MB Executive Bureau Member and Arab Doctors’ Union Dr. Abdul Monem Abul Fotouh expressed his sympathy with the victims families, pointing out that a delegation from the Doctors Syndicate’ s relief committee was sent to the scene to assist in treatment of the injured and offer health services required . On the other hand, Dr. Abu Fotouh held the government responsible for such tragic recurrent accidents.” This is evidence of the failure of the railway system and absence of accountability within the government apparatuses” he said, adding that in each tragic transport accident the government settles for bringing a number of civil servants to account as a scapegoat while leaving the senior officials responsible for the disaster, which led to corruption plaguing the entire state. It is to be mentioned that the railway system in particular and the state- owned transport in general have witnessed similar but more horrific accidents, reminiscent of the February 2002 train crash which claimed the lives of hundreds of people, and reminiscent also of the most deadly accident ever in the transport sector early this year when steamship Al Salaam sank in the sea and resulted in the drowning of more than 1000 persons besides many other missing.
