Israeli occupation forces (IOF) at dawn Saturday kidnapped the PA deputy prime minister and education minister, Dr. Nasseruddin Al-Sha’er, from his home in Ramallah city.

Well informed sources said that the IOF troops encircled the house of Dr. Sha’er and asked him via loudspeakers to give himself in after which he was taken to an unknown location.

The IOF had repeatedly tried to capture the deputy premier in line with its sweep of arrests in lines of PA ministers and lawmakers affiliated with the Hamas Movement that started after the capture of the IOF soldier Gilad Shalit on 25/6/2006 on the part of three Palestinian resistance armed wings but to no avail.

Dr. Sha’er had charged the IOF a few days ago with attempting to assassinate PA premier Ismail Haneyya through sending a postal package that turned out to be filled with a chemical substance. The PA security personnel who opened the envelope were all hospitalized after inhaling that unknown substance.

For its part, the PA government strongly denounced the IOF abduction of Dr. Sha’er, charging that it fell in line with the Israeli occupation government’s attempt to crumble the Palestinian political system.

PA government spokesman Dr. Ghazi Hamad said that it was now clear that Israel after halting its war on Lebanon wanted to focus its efforts against the Palestinian people and its elected government through military escalation, daily murders, arrests and kidnappings.

"Israel is acting as if it was a state above the law", he charged, adding that Tel Aviv wishes to weaken the PA.

The spokesman underlined that his government was holding contacts with various international parties to check the Israeli aggression, but regrettably noted that the responses were usually weak because the world was not interested in what was going on in Palestine.
