On Tuesday, 70 of Egyptian pharmacists staged an open sit-in in the headquarters of el-Dakahlya syndicate in solidarity with their colleagues that were put under arrest in the course of the parliamentary polls.

Our stay-in strike lasts till the detained pharmacists set free. They were picked up at dawn raids during the vote.
They appeared before the prosecutor who ordered their release.

However, they were detained in riot police camps then they were moved to Borg el-Arab Prison, Dr. Ahmed Ramy, a member of Pharmacists’ Syndicate board told Ikhwan online.

Ramy added on Monday a delegation of the syndicate visited the detainees who complained maltreatment and deteriorated conditions of prisons. Stationery is not allowed in jails. In addition, more than one hundred of prisoners suffered from diarrhea. Moreover, their belongings are subject to stealing.

He remarked that pharmacies are to be closed an hour to show support for the arrested pharmacists. This sit-in is a preliminary action that may expand according to the developments. Ramy pressed for the release of all detainees, for the improvement of prison conditions and for the abolishment of the Emergency Law.

Connection with the National Council for Women along with the Motherhood and Childhood Center is on the way to expound the profound suffering of the detainees’ wives and children as a result of their sustainers’ unjustified prison
