814 MBs Detained Ahead of Shura Elections
The number of Muslim Brotherhood detainees as of Thursday afternoon, June 7th, 2007, reached 814, including 646 who were detained in the last two weeks, since the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) declared running for elections of the Shura Council, the upper chamber of parliament.
The defence team of the MB detainees issued a statement of the number of detainees and their governorates, excluding those detained during campaigns and released later.
The governorate of Giza tops all governorates in the number of detainees (148 detainees), followed by governorates of Monofiya and Kafr Al-Sheikh (93 from each one of them), then Sharqiya (87 detainees), Bani Suwayf (79 detainees), Ismailia (63 detainees), Dakahliya (50 detainees), Al Fayyum (48 detainees), and Al Beheira (33 detainees), Cairo and Al-Qalyubia ( 27 detainees from each one of them) Gharbiya (18 detainees), Suez and Alexandria (10 detainees from each one of them), Minya (6 detainees) then Qina (5 detainees), Suhaj and Asyut (1 detainees from each one of them).
