The American Veto Sends The Wrong Message
The U.S. vetoed UN draft resolution condemning the Israeli massacre in Beit Hanoun, which killed 18 members of a Palestinian family and wounded scores others, mostly women and children, in cold blood. John Bolton, the U.S ambassador to the UN, told the Security Council “The resolution does not display an evenhanded characterization of the recent events in Gaza, nor does it advance the cause of Israeli-Palestinian peace".

The U.S. vetoed UN draft resolution condemning the Israeli massacre in Beit Hanoun, which killed 18 members of a Palestinian family and wounded scores others, mostly women and children, in cold blood. John Bolton, the U.S ambassador to the UN, told the Security Council “The resolution does not display an evenhanded characterization of the recent events in Gaza, nor does it advance the cause of Israeli-Palestinian peace". Does the U.S government really believe that the continuous Israeli crimes against women and children and the destruction of the Palestinian infrastructure will advance the peace process? The UN resolution was just a mere “condemnation” of the Israeli unprovoked attack on civilians which Israel itself admitted was “an error”. Although the resolution did not even propose any sanctions or punishing measures against Israel, but it was needed to preserve the credibility of the World’s body, if there is any!

This unwise decision by the U.S government sends a wrong message to the Muslim world and reinforces the negative image the U.S enjoys due to its biased policies and unconditional support of Israel. In plain words, the American veto indicates the U.S. government’s approval of the war crimes committed by the unstoppable Israeli killing machine against unarmed Palestinian civilians and its indiscriminate targeting of women and children (951 children and minors killed by Israel since 2000). The U.S should not cry foul over losing the hearts and minds of the people in the Middle East by failing to hold Israel accountable for the unimaginable atrocities it is committing against Palestinians on a daily basis. Perhaps the U.S. government itself has lost its feeling for humanity and became indifferent to the killings and sufferings of innocent people after the massacres committed by U.S soldiers in Iraq.

Why should the world then condemn any of these orphaned kids or wounded parents who lost their loved ones in Beit Hanoun if they blow up themselves in order to kill more Israelis in revenge, in an endless cycle of violence! What does the world have to offer these shattered families after failing to do the simplest and the most natural human act by condemning the perpetrators who exterminated entire families in one of the most horrific examples of ethnic cleansing the history has witnessed!

The U.S. decision to veto the UN resolution will only encourage invincible Israel to pursuit its endless campaign of killings and destruction and will undermine the U.S. interests in the region by bolstering the anti-American sentiment which will breed more violence and terrorism directed towards the U.S and its allies. The failure to condemn Israeli aggressions by the UN will seriously threaten its credibility and will lead victims to seek justice by their own hands in this chaotic world of today.
