Ashri: Once Again Al-Shater is Barred From Exercising His Political Rights
Mukhtar Ashri, President of the Legal Committee of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), said that the decision of the Supreme Presidential Electoral Commission (SPEC) to reject an appeal by Khairat Al-Shater against an earlier ruling to exclude him from the presidential race means the systematic trampling of the rule of law and implementation of a pernicious political plot.
In a statement to Ikhwanweb, Ashri expressed his deep regret at SPEC’s insistence on the injustice inflicted on Khairat Al-Shater yet again, preventing him from exercising his political rights in a continuation of the approach of the former regime, under which Al-Shater did suffer tremendous hardship and great injustice.
Ashri added that the Legal Committee provided all documents proving the integrity of Al-Shater’s solid legal position, supported by a legal team comprised of the most prominent legal scholars.
Nevertheless, SPEC totally ignored clear evidence, vengefully upholding its previous perverse decision, in a complete departure from established legal principles.
Furthermore, Ashri pointed out that excluding Al-Shater, Abu Ismail and Ayman Nour is an integral part of a clear political scheme for which also Omar Suleiman, the former vice president, had to be disqualified to ease the tension mounting in the Egyptian street and to calm the increasingly overwhelming atmosphere of rejection of the former regime remnants running for head of state.
Meanwhile, Ashri stressed that Dr. Mohamed Morsi, FJP Chairman, will continue to run for the presidency, carrying forth the Renaissance Project, from which Khairat Al-Shater was so deliberately eliminated.
