Asyut Uni. “Secretly” Honors Detained Reformist Khaled Awda

Nadia Sharara, wife of the Muslim Brotherhood leader Dr. Khaled Awda, a geology professor at the Faculty of Science in Asyut university confirmed that the University held a party to honor senior professors, topped by Dr. Khaled Awda. The wife of Dr. Awda, currently detained by the State Security Police in a groundless money laundry charge fabricated against Muslim Brotherhood leaders, said she received a phone call from the dean of the Faculty of Science, requesting her attendance to receive a trophy that the faculty granted to her husband. The wife was later surprised to earn that Dr. Awda”s name was not on honorees” list which she attributed it to the university”s fear of making public the honour of a Muslim Brotherhood leader even if he is a source of pride to both the university and Egypt.
Nadia Sharara pointed out that Ezzat Abdullah, the president of Asyut University, is one of the students of her detained husband; however, he never asked the Egyptian regime to release him although he knows very well the important research projects her husband Khaled Awda was conducting. Dr. Khaled Awda should have been honoured during this ceremony by the international team that works with him and are about to complete the geological research that tackles the recent phenomenon of the global warming; this detention deprived my husband of an international honour due to his academic and scientific contributions, said his wife.
