Badee: We will continue on Qutb’s path to reform.
Dr Mohamed Badee, a newly elected member of the Muslim Brotherhood guidance bureau asserted that the new Chairman of the movement will be soon announced. Although it is expected within the ranks that he may be the next chairman Badee refused to disclose the name of the 8th leader of the group asserting that it will be revealed soon enough. It is expected that the current chairman Mahdi Akef who end his term will be relieved of his post January 13th.
Badee who received the highest number of votes during the guidance bureau elections has been said to follow the conservative ideals of the late Sayed Qutb who has been labeled a hardliner with harsh ideals. Badee denied these allegations of Qutb claiming that Qutb was in fact a reformist who had won the respect of many including Eugene Rogan author of “The Arab”. He continued that numerous theses studied and doctorates discussed were based on Qutb’s writings where he was in fact referred to as a ‘reformist’.
Badee assumed numerous highly ranked positions including treasurer to the doctors Syndicate, and a leader in the teachers club claiming he was popular with all members including those who were from different political movements and trends.
He gave tribute to his colleagues and personal friends and highly ranked leaders Dr Abdul Monem Abul Fotouh and Dr Mohamed Habib who were sidelined in the current elections stressing that they were and still are valuable members of the movement. He wished them the best of luck. Badee concluded that he hoped that the movement will continue in its path with perseverance under any new leader stressing that the Brotherhood like any trend was apt to make mistakes and that all members should be open to improvement and progress “after all we’re only human”.
