Beltagy: Any Campaign for Change Should Be Translated in Democratic Process
In a press statement, Dr. Mohamed Beltagy, a member of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP)’s Executive Bureau, reaffirmed that the right to peaceful protest and demonstration using peaceful means is guaranteed to all according to the text and spirit of the law and the Constitution.
"With the Rebel campaign calling for withdrawal of confidence from the elected President, claiming that 2 million people have signed their wish to oust the President, the idea is simply illogical. The President did not have the votes of 12 million people in the presidential election. So, if the campaign collected only 2 million signatures, this is a good sign for the President, rather than a bad one. It probably means he was able to win over 10 million votes of those who voted against him in the election.
"I call on the campaign’s organizers to transform the millions of participants they’re talking about, in a democratic framework, into a political party that pulls them all together. They may even win the House majority. Thus far, the campaign is no more than a public survey."
